花捲 and 餅

One Saturday afternoon, when kids went to Chinese School, I planned to make some bread; however, in the middle of my dough making process(in the bread machine), Stephen needed me to go to the church to be with the kids, so I didn't have enough time for making the bread. The dough was in the machine longer than I planned, but it was actually better. Instead of bread, I made 花捲 and 餅。花捲 is the bigger hit than 餅,and kids like the regular 蔥油餅 better than the 發酵過的蔥餅。

菠菜冬菇豆腐乾水餃餡的 leftover 就成為一道菜了。(還沒切碎我就先留起來了。)

Dumplings

I love dumplings, but I'm tired of eating those frozen dumplings sold in the market because they were too oily and too much meat inside. Therefore, I wrapped the dumplings myself. So far, I have tried 白菜肉餡, 韭菜豆腐乾肉餡, 菠菜豆腐乾冬菇肉餡, but the best of all is 瓠(hou)子肉餡。

Marinate the ground pork with green onion, ginger, black pepper, soy sauce, wine and little bit of sasame oil. 用手用力同方向攪拌,再加上一點水再攪拌, 靜置冰箱30分。Sometimes, I would also buy 3 or 4 shrimps and mix with the meat.
料切細,會出水的蔬菜像白菜,韭菜,先加鹽醃一會讓它出水後擰乾,再與其他料及肉混合,稍微再調味一下。I like to put it back to the frige again for few minutes before I wrap it, but it's not necessary.

Next time, I will try 菠菜 or 韭菜粉絲。

Thin Sandwich Bread

I like to try new things, and I hate to have the same breakfast every morning, so as soon as I find something new, I will give it a try (if the price is ok)

Thin Sandwich bread and thin bagel were the new things that I found in Target recently. Kids usually have smaller mouths, so a regular sandwich with 2 pieces of regular breads is not a popular item in our breakfast manu because it will take too much time for them to finish the whole thing. In the morning, time is very precious!
This bread is very thin, so it's easier for them to eat even with some chicken nuggets, ham or egg inside.
